“Unseen Hand” is a project about the natural ecosystems sacrificed for human progress. This work explores the destruction of the marine ecosystem through the whale’s perspective, contrasting the beauty of the ocean with the consequences of human actions. The whale observes the boundary between the ocean and the world above.
The Disney castle symbolizes childhood innocence and the idealized world of wonder shared by everyone. However, along the water path leading toward the castle, struggling marine life reveals a reality far removed from that innocence.
The work also explores human duality through two contrasting ideas. First, The Generous Whale: humans once treasured an object enough to keep it safely in a box, but eventually discarded it, and the whale later discovers it abandoned in the ocean. Second, Worship of Whales vs. Human Actions: although whales are admired and celebrated in the human world, human behavior continues to pollute and harm the ocean. In one scene, a discarded television underwater plays a video glorifying whales and portraying the ocean as clean, exposing the hypocrisy between what humans admire and how they actually treat the environment.
